One of the things I try to provide is a one stop shop for email and for the website. While moving people over the past 6 weeks, it has become apparent that some people are still using 3rd party email systems. That is absolutely the right thing to do if you consciously set it up to work in that way. Particularly those of you that have moved to Outlook 365 which uses cloud based email.
Who sources your email?
However in a few cases I have found email is being used through a 3rd party provider, but nobody knows why. The issue here is you may be paying twice for hosting.
There is another case where people are using hotmail, yahoo or gmail accounts. Possibly because they did not realise they could use an email account with their domain name.
Following the recent upgrade you can in principle have unlimited email accounts (the actual limit is 100) each of which is 10GB in size. This is included in the hosting costs.
I recommend that you check and come back to me if you think you are paying twice for hosting, or do not know why email is being managed from somewhere else. If you do know why, that is fine. If you are using hotmail, gmail or yahoo, get in contact and I can show you how you can migrate from the current mail system to one that still works with old mail addresses but allows you to use your domain name based email address.
Domain name registration
Additionally, I am moving domain names from one registrar to another. Moving people and creating new websites often uncovers the problem that nobody knows who registered domain name and who is paying for the renewal . This problem is not uncommon. People come and go in organisations, and in one case several years back, the owner had passed away.
It is a good idea to check this at least once a year. Whom is your domain name registered to? If it is not someone in your organisation, then I recommend finding someone in your organisation and assigning their name and email address to the domain name. Also make a note if they leave that you move it again.
In many cases the domain names are registered to me because I took them out. I would like to get them all registered to you unless you are happy for me to continue looking after them for you. If they are registered to your organisation then you will not have any problems regaining control over your domain name.
For domain names ending in .org.uk or .co.uk you can check by going to this page and enter the domain name and it will return what is on record.
For people with domain names ending in .com, .org, or .net there are other ways you can check. Try going to https://mxtoolbox.com and entering your domain name. After you have entered it a result will come back (it relates to your mail server address. Choose Whois from the form to find out the registrant details.
