On several versions of Home-Start regional websites I have displayed a set of logos representing your supporters and sponsors. This is located in the footer (bottom of your site) and present on all pages.

Occassionally supporters change and new funding is obtained, old funding is not renewed so it is reasonable to wish to change supporters.
Occasionally I am asked if I can change them which of course I can do this for you if required. For most sites you should be able to do this yourself.
There are several ways of doing this, I am going to describe the easiest method which is not foolproof as it is dependent on some parameters in your site. If this does not work contact me and I will resolve it for you.
The Footer Area
For some of the earlier Home-Start sites (and some others) there is an area in the footer where you can display logos. These are in an image file. You can find out if your site supports this by locating the image file in the footer placing your cursor over it and right clicking the mouse. You should see several options available to you: Choose the one which says something like “Open image in a new tab”.
Switch to the new tab and check the URL for the image.
If it looks like this you can follow the rest of this tutorial:
www………….org.uk/wp-content/uploads/logoset.jpg
However if it carries any date in the the URL for the image you cannot use this method. An example of an image location carrying a date looks like this:
www………….org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/logoset.jpg
In this URL there is date information (November 2015) which indicates when the logo was added to the website. This means that images are tied to dates. It is beneficial in some ways, however it means that if you delete something that was placed on the site in 2015 and upload something today it will be placed in a directory based on today’s month and year. So the new URL for your image would be different.
Assuming your logo image has no date in the URL
This is really a hack (cheating) rather than the proper fool proof way of making these changes. When your site is built in the browser it downloads the components from the server database and any associated image files.
If we can identify an image file and wish to change it everywhere, we can copy it, edit it, delete the original on the site and then upload the edited version using the SAME FILENAME. You have to do it in that order. Otherwise the new filename may be changed by WordPress if there is already a file with the same name in the folder.
Steps to do this:
(Sanity check, you should not do this if your logo URL has a date in the address (year and month)).
1. Right click on the image in the footer and download a copy of the image file and save it.
2. Also save a copy of the image file and rename it ORIGINAL.jpg. Never edit this, it is your route back to restoring your site if something goes wrong.
3. Open the original in an image editor.
4. Erase any logos you no longer need (keeping the back ground colour consistent)
5. Add any logo images to the space and also consider moving the existing ones to make space.
6. Do not change the dimensions of the logoset.jpg (or equivalent name) canvas. You cannot make it bigger, it might break something, you cannot make it smaller either. Just treat it like a sheet of paper and organise your logos where you want them to be.
7. Save the file using the original file name as a jpg.
8. Log into your site and go to the media library and locate the old image file. It will be at the start (bottom) of the image library as it was one of the first files added to the site.
9. When you have located it delete it. (Just recheck that you have a master copy saved earlier before you do this).
10. Next upload the new version of the file.
11. Ensure that the file name is unchanged. Go to the user view of your website and refresh your site. You should see the footer rebuilt using the new logo image. If you do not see it then try a different browser. If you can see it in a different browser, but not in your current browser it means the image file is cached locally in your browser. (Caching is a way of speeding up site performance by storing some elements of a site locally on your computer/device so you do not need to download everything from the server). You may need to clear your cache in the browser to view the site with the new image.
Hopefully that worked ok for you. If not, send me your saved logo file (from step 2) and your revised logo and let me know which site it is on and I will fix it for you. Contact me here.
