I mentioned last month (see the article) that I had been working with Home-Start London, adding in a section called Home-Start Stories. These are slide shows that illustrate the work that Home-Start does from a client’s perspective.
In this case the process was led by the director of Home-Start London; Helena Konneh. I had the relative easy job of preparing the stories for the web, powerpoint and video. Helena used social media (twitter) to encourage people to visit the website and see the stories. This is what happened. The formal launch was September 4th
You can see prior to the 4th the hit rate was quite low. Post the 4th of September the hit rate increased. This was directly due to the marketing effort guiding people back to the website via twitter and other places. The bounce rate figure is also impressive because it is very low. This is normally around 50%.
When we looked into the website behaviour we could see that people were visiting the first Home-Start London Story on the left in the image below, fewer visited the middle one, and not many visited the one on the right.
So knowing this we swapped them around moving the one on the left to the right. This ensured that the other stories could get some balanced exposure as well. Here is the updated view.
The behaviour of visitors can be observed using Google Analytics. All of the sites I am hosting have Google Analytics included. So you can have access to this information as well. I mentioned a plugin called GADWP last month, (Google Analytics Dashboard for WordPress), let me know and I will install it on your dashboard and connect it to the GA account, and you can do your own analysis on your site.
Incidentally, as a direct result of this campaign on the Home-Start London site, the average visitor numbers have increased, directly because of adding in, and marketing these stories.
